What is inkPulse? Continuing the Writers Guild of Alberta’s 15 year tradition of bringing you writing focused camps for youth (first as YouthWrite and now as inkPulse) we present an exciting and dynamic writing day camp for teens! At inkPulse, we tap into your imagination through creation, collaboration and diversity! Talented Canadian artists join forces to bring you exciting lessons incorporating movement, sound, performance and writing exercises, all designed to inspire text creation. The days are jam-packed. You will work individually, in small groups and with the entire ensemble; classes are taught by individual instructors, pairs of teachers and the whole teaching team.
A Day at inkPulse! Typically our day runs from 10am-5pm. Friday we have an extended day in order to celebrate the week with a wrap up event which runs from 5-7pm where participants present their work to their family and friends. Each day, we begin with a warm-up, designed not only to prepare you vocally and physically for the work, but also to jump start your imagination and get your creativity flowing. Next, you will take part in a group writing activity, a lesson from one of our instructors, and then lunch. During the afternoon, you’ll have journaling time, take another great class with our second instructor and attend a workshop hosted by a guest writer. Busy? You betcha! Fun? Oh yeah! Our goal is to give you the opportunity to express yourself freely while you connect with other creative teens and meet brilliant Canadian artists and we want to squeeze the most out of every moment.
Where are the Camps? We have held camps in Lethbridge, Calgary, Edmonton, and Grande Prairie. For details on the locations we will be holding our 2012 camps, check back to this website often. Who Teaches There? We hire fun, exciting and experienced instructors and guests to work with the participants of our camps. Past staff have included playwrights Sam Varteniuk and Ellen Chorley, poet Bob Stallworthy, street artist Tegan Forbes, journalist Trent Wilkie, novelist Karen Bass and clown Shantelle Landry. We strive to have a combination of artists from within the hosting community and from around the province. Check out our instructors from 2011 here How Much Does it Cost?
